Canadian-based network for trainees involved in occupation-focused research
RE: Canadian-based network for trainees involved in occupation-focused research
This email pertains to the Canadian-based Network for Trainees Involved in Occupation-
focused Research. This network aims to (1) connect research trainees (i.e., thesis-based
masters; doctorate; post-doctorate fellows) across Canada who self-identify as being
interested or involved in occupation-focused research and (2) provide focused learning
and sharing opportunities for network members. This is an inclusive group that includes a
variety of research trainee programs/degrees, departments, and institutions. The network
is affiliated with the Association of Canadian Occupational Therapy University Programs
(ACOTUP) research committee (https://www.acotup-acpue.ca/english/committees ).
Hi Everyone,
We are happy to announce our next research trainee shared learning event, “Talking with
Editors: Demystifying Being a Peer-Reviewer”
In this learning event, we are happy to announce that we have special guest panelists:
- Lisette Farias, PhD (Karolinska Institute), Associate Editor, Journal of
Occupational Science lisette.farias.vera@ki.se - Stephanie Bodison, OTR/L OTD (University of Florida), Associate
Editor, American Journal of Occupational
therapy stefaniebodison@phhp.ufl.edu - Brenda Vrkljan, PhD (McMaster University), Editor in Chief Scientific
Editor, Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy. cjoteditor@caot.ca
The editors will share a bit about the peer-review process for their journal, provide “hot
tips” for being an effective peer-reviewer, and talk about lessons learned (e.g., what types
of review feedback are helpful and less helpful to receive from a manuscript peer-
reviewer). The purpose is to provide a venue to meet and learn from current editors in the
field of occupational therapy and occupational science as well as each other to inspire and
support your own developing skills in being a peer-reviewer for journals.

Dear ISOS members,
We hope you are well when you receive this email.
The ISOS Board invites you to our 1st ISOS Virtual Event for 2023: Transparency, Diversity, and Inclusivity in Occupational Science: An Unconferencing Conversation. Date: May 31, 2023. Time: 8am (Pacific time) / 5pm (Central European Time)
This event will be formatted as an ‘Unconference’, a participant-driven meeting where participants are free to set their own agenda (given a broad topic, see event title above), ask questions, discuss, and end up with an output comprising of a theme of take home messages. An unconference moves away from the traditional way of meeting with people. While semi-structured in nature, the end goal of an unconference is to foreground the voices of participants rather than experts in decision-making, problem-solving, and co-creating.
The participation is free. Registration here.
More information here.
We hope we can meet
Warm regards,
Rodolfo Morrison
on behalf of the ISOS Board
